We have really hard well water. I currently use a chemical water softener, but it changes the taste and adds potassium chloride to the water. I would like to find a non chemical solution. I have seen magnetic and frequency based water softeners, but have not seen any studies (other than by the mfg) that indicates that they work.
www.wholehousewaterfilternow.com When considering a whole house water filter system, what is the difference between new green technologies and old-fashioned water softeners? New technology hard water filters don’t put salt and chemicals into the environment like old salt based water softeners do. Using a salt free whole home water filter from Healthy Home Solutions will eliminate the salt and chemicals and this is why these are the best water filters you can get.
Anybody can specific what is salt free water softener?

I’m moving from southern California to Las Vegas and I have freshwater fish. Oscars and a community tank . I’ve heard that water softeners are ok to use if you use magnesium instead of salt and replace the removed minerals and adjust the ph back to neutral. Is that true, or will the fish be better off with straight untreated water from the tap?
I’d like to know which one you have and how you like it. My water is of moderate hardness with a little bit of iron. I want to soften it a touch and remove some of the iron but not completely. I have an average ph level and I don’t want to use salt.
Please no more answers from those of you who have or recommend salt softeners. This question is for those who have alternative softeners to see if they work and how people like them. Example, magnetic systems or catalyst systems ect.
So, what about those “no salt / salt-free” so-called “water softeners?”
